Tacoma rear locker frozen

My question is how long would it take to get enough mud and dirt in the actuator to have to remove and clean it. My rear locker seems to be sticking when cold until i drive it for a bit. The actuator is only a fews years old three at most brand new from the dealer. I only wheel it a few times a year at the most. These things are crazy expensive and i dont want to remove it and take it apart risking breaking it.

If you're getting mud in there, you've got serious problems lol

How long does it take to engage? Or how far do you have to drive?
Not saying you don't, but some people don't realize that you have be going under 5mph and it helps to turn while activating the locker, otherwise the light will just blink until it finally can engage. If you already knew this I'm sorry, just had to say it. Like I said theres a lot of people who don't know this.

Too expensive maybe when they're about $400 cheaper I'll get one.

Elockers do not necessarily lock and unlock fast. The thing is probably corroded. No idea where you live but that's a possibility. There's another thread some where that goes into how to clean the motor. It is very easy to pull off the diff (as the link I provided shows, if you looked).

If i plan to use it I try to engage it in the parking lot across from my driveway doing s-turns at extremely low speed. When its gonna engage i hear a clink from it then usually goes in. Lately i have to drive probably 10 miles or so before its gonna work also if i park it locked it will be stuck until i go for a longer drive again. Like i said the actuator is two maybe three years old it and the harness was replaced at the dealer at the same time. The connections all visually look good with no corrosion. I have the gray wire mod done so it does engage in 2wd. The only thing i can think is theres crud in the actuator.
