Sorry for the subject being similar to a Wesley Snipes movie, but its fairly accurate.
The particulars, I've got a 97 v6 5sp w/78k miles. At ~1300-1500 rpm (while accelerating) i'll get a stumble. Happens in at least first thru third (i haven't lugged out 4th or 5th lately). Engine runs smoothly thru the rest of the band (well at least 4k RPM, it doesn't go higher, in fact rarely passes 3300 RPM).
Thoughts?
Lame Mods in the sig meaning Deckplate and ISR (and non-performance mods). Also i'm up at 6000 feet.
(I would have searched, but the function is down today)

Try cleaning the throttle body, add some injector cleaner and change the plugs, air and fuel filters.

Ahh..from the Springs, huh?
My family used to live there...loved that place. Nothing better than walking out onto your deck in the morning or evening and having Pikes Peak staring you in the face!!!

I was thinking abouthe plugs or wires I put in about 6months ago might be the cause. Just seems odd that it would manifest itself later. I'll give the injector cleaner a go and do a search on the throttle body.Originally posted by MTL_4runner

Thanks for the tip.

I cherish the two miles west I drive every morning as I get to wake up to the sun off the front range. So yes, pretty good stuff. Now to work on my plan of getting a job in the interior of CO.Originally posted by CTB

I beg to differ about the deckplate and ISR mod being lame.
Have you checked all your ISR fitting (plugs) and made sure they dont have the warp problem as posted in previous threads?
I have some ideas for you if you find that yours are warped.

Lame isn't the right word for the mods. Low Dollar mods is probably the correct terminology. (Although I've got it in my head that the ISR and deckplate get me about 1/3 of what they get you. That being minus 1/3 for thin air. Then minus another third because less drag was removed; because the air density is less. But that is probably me just overanalyzing and being negative.) Certainly all the writeups here aren't lame.

I did not upgrade to the threaded fittings when the retrofit post came out. However I did cursory inspection w/ eye and fingers. When I do my oil this weekend I'll check again. I may swap the parts just to verify.Have you checked all your ISR fitting (plugs) and made sure they dont have the warp problem as posted in previous threads?

Well, I didn’t think you meant lame in the Webster’s context – at least I hope not. Anyway, not only do I recommend a thorough check of the ISR plugs, but I also recommend switching to the threaded clean-out plug no matter what. I have also found that a smaller barbed hose fitting for the FPR hose (than initially recommended) has allowed me to go to mid-grade fuel instead of premium with no ping. I realize that you are much higher in elevation, so that probably isn’t an issue, but I am sure you come down out of the clouds every now and then.
If you need exact Home Depot part #’s, I can get them for you. Just let me know. I know off hand that the threaded ISR plug is a 2” black, SCH40 clean-out plug. Found in the plumbing section of course.

Holy old threads batman. Stumble was cured last week. Note I had played around with the ISR plugs over the last year or two. But eventually I just learned not to drive in 3rd or 4th gear at 1300 rPM.
Problem resolved itself when I put in new plugs. I only had 30k on the last set - but since i used single electrode autolites I had been wondering if this was my issue. Unfortunately I can't tell you if the stumble was resolved by going back to Toyota (Denso) plugs or if I had an install issue that I rectified.
My take is that since I installed both sets - and I didn't swap wires or anything else - that it was a plug issue. So - one more vote for dual electrode plugs.
