Sloped vs vertical valve covers: what year did it change? 83 or 84?
OK what year did the sloped valve covers stop?
I thought it was 83. And the vertical valve covers started in '84.
I have just seen a lot of 84 & 85's with early style valve cover (I know a lot of early engines get swapped into later trucks))

The valve covers are interchangeable. I prefer the sloped cover because of the smoother look. But I know that they are interchangeable from early blocks to late blocks as I have changed many.
Once toyota created what we know as a laser block that's when they did away with the sloped cover

It was in mid 1984 which causes sourcing parts for that year engine tricky at times. At least in the Celica`s But you never want to go by the valve cover to date the engine.
