OK what year did the sloped valve covers stop?
I thought it was 83. And the vertical valve covers started in '84.
I have just seen a lot of 84 & 85's with early style valve cover (I know a lot of early engines get swapped into later trucks))

The valve covers are interchangeable. I prefer the sloped cover because of the smoother look. But I know that they are interchangeable from early blocks to late blocks as I have changed many.

Once toyota created what we know as a laser block that's when they did away with the sloped cover

You are right dropzone 1984 but I think it was a mid year change.

Red face

It was in mid 1984 which causes sourcing parts for that year engine tricky at times. At least in the Celica`s

But you never want to go by the valve cover to date the engine.
