Shop has my vehicle for over 3 weeks. what can i do?

A shop (family friend owned) has had my vehicle for over 3 weeks and done little work on it (i need to replace bumper, radiator, hood, lights) and has delayed the ready date 2x already.

I wanted to find out what do I need to do and what should I get done/in writing from him before I take any serious actions.

Others will have better info, but I'd say start by saying you want a completion date in writing. That alone may be enough to make him realize you're sick of waiting.

Thats all you need done and its taking 3 WEEKS?? What the hell is going on in Brooklyn?? If I lived in NYC I would come over and do that in a few beers! Maybe he had to order a bumper and/or hood that might take a little time but not 3 weeks. What is the wrecking yard status in that area? Shouldn't be to hard to find some of those parts. I know Rockland County across the river has a few Junk yards I think up by Suffen or Nyack. Westchester and LI have to have one somewhere.
I am not sure what you mean by "what I need to do and what I need to get done."
If he is a family friend owner there shouldn't be an issue. I would go in and politely say - Um, I need my truck, NOW. Thanks! And do that stuff yourself.

yeah, i plan on going to get it in writing. i paid money to get the job done and feel like i'm being ripped off by having the car just sit there. the parts came in already and the job was supposed to be completed since middel of november.

i've learned my lesson and will never go back to him.

thanks for the replies

is this 'family friend' doing the work at an extremely discounted rate?

you paid with out an estimate in writing?

Get your parts back and do it on a Saturday...that's what I'd do. Good luck!

all of that baring any people in front of you should have taken no more than a day or two to do.
