I manually "latched" my rear hatch catch because I was leaving all of my 2004 4Runner's doors open for awhile to clean and didn't want to run down the battery. This trick was suggested in another forum to trick the car into thinking the back hatch was closed. However, I can't open it now. The hatch is up and the latch is closed, so I can't put the hatch down- it won't latch with the bottom ring. When I closed it manually, I just used my finger to move it to a closed position, but now I've tried that, a screwdriver, etc. and the plastic casing around the latch is starting to bend from the pressure. I've tried unlocking/locking doors, I tried prying off the little cover inside the back of the hatch latch to see if there is something there (just found a plastic sheet, didn't look behind it). Help!
