Has your airbox ever broken? K&N or OE replacment?
So I was poking around under my hood yesterday and I found that my airbox induction hose has broken off from the airbox. Now, this isn't the hose that connects the airbox to the intake manifold, but the actual part of the airbox where the air hose attaches. I'd post a pic, but I'm at work right now...but you can see it here, its the part of the box to the immediate left of component #8... http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...layCatalogid=0
So, has this happened to anyone? I'm suprised it broke because it's a static part. It looks like the glue that held it together failed (strange it's not molded as one piece). Not sure how long it's been broken, but hopefully not too long because the intake is bypassing the airfilter, straight into the manifold. Unfourtnately, it's upstream of the air flow sensor so the computer never noticed. My band-aid fix is classic - about 15 zip-ties and a bunch of silicone.
But, now I'm looking to fix it for real, and not sure if I want to do a junkyard OE box replacement or a K&N intake. New OE box is about $400, K&N is $250, and I'm guessing a junkyard box will be about $75-100. For those of you with K&Ns, is it worth it? I already had the deckplate mod with the intake silencers removed and like the sound and improved throttle response.

It really depends on how much money you want to spend. You can probably get a used one for 50-75 dollars, thats alot cheaper than a K&N set up, so again its up to you.
