e-brake problem

e-brake problem
So I broke my e-brake cable and found where the brake was, its just infront of the part where the front cable connects to the rear. I thought I could just open up where the wire was originally connected and reconnect and clamp it down, and adjust the spring to the proper distance. But than i realized the old piece doesn't open up.
Is there any other way I can do this, with another piece instead or something?
Here are some pix of what I am working with.
Also, the wire is not fully extedned in the pictures, its caught up near the handle and has a few bends but nothing too bad. Will this be a problem?
And also, i looked online for the front wire but all i could fine was things that said rear right and rear left, so who knows where this is?

I had the same thing happen on my 89 4x4 22re.
I got it fixed by going to the hardware store
and getting a wire splice block and spliced a
new stainless steel wire between the broken
pieces.
I can't get to your pics.

Yea i duno if that will work for mine cause there is only about 1/4" left on the eyehole end of the wire, not enough to grab anything onto.
There has to be somethign else i can clamp on to make it work, but since it is kinda important, a new cable is probably worth it.
pix and same post is in general tech section

Hi - I think the same thing just happened to MY 89 22RE pickup! A friend was driving with me in the car - he parked, pulled on the hand brake and it just came all the way back with no resistance. I'll be working to fix it tomorrow.
TJKWAK - can you provide some more specific info on where you found the break?
AKEnnedy87 - I don't see the cable pics on your car domain site - am I looking at the right place?
Any other suggestions? How much of a pain is this to fix?
Thanks,
BoulderG

Pix are in the "General Vehicle Related Topics" Section in this site.
Watch out though cause when doing this, it was pretty easy, I hit something on the clutch and lost all pressure in it. Either slave cylinder or some line i guess. But this sucks.
With my truck if its not one thing, its another wtf!
