22re head work..help

Hey everyone,
I ripped the motor apart due to a broken timing chain rail. While I have the head off i wouldnt mind getting some more power out of my little 22re. I was thinking an rv cam and a mild port and polish as well as maybe a 3 angle valve job. also of course resurface the head. anyone that has done something like this i would really appreciate some input or anyone with any better suggestions. also i have no idea how much something like this is gonna run at a machine shop. thanks!

Talk to engnbldr.com i sent mine to them and the put oversized valves and new cam for about $300 +shipping. they are in Wash. so it my be less for you. They do great work, I didn't have much time to enjoy mine before the bottom end went bad.

don't resurface the head unless it's warped or the surface is mucked up. it'll retard your cam timing and move your power higher up in the RPMs.

if you do a lot of highway driving i'd recommend his 268C or 270 cam. good mid range sticks, the 261c is better for something that does a lot of grunting.

oversized valves are also a good buy, i think there a little over $50 a set from engnbldr. they aren't so big to require new seats, so most shops can just cut them out a little more. usually doesn't cost much more than just a plain old valve job. have them replace the valve seals while they're in there too.

Just go to engnbldr.com and get one of his reman'd heads with a cam allready in it. save yourself sometime. you can also check ebay for one of his auctions. Get his timing rebuild kit while your at it. The one with the metal backed guides.

FYI, engnbldr's heads are new castings, not remans...
