Hi, i'm new and i need some help with a motor choice for a mud truck.1980 hilux roller,4.56 geared danas and 37'x11' swampers.What do people usually run in something like this?Smallblock chevy?I'm trying to figure out how much horsepower and wheelspeed i need to have to run the swampers in the mud but i'm also trying to keep it driveable for the street.Suggestions and help are appreciated.

 

you could have geared to 5.29s and kept the toyota running gear and stayed with the 22r and been fine, go with a small block chevy and you would still be fine, just keep your foot out of it

 

I'm still running my stock 22re, but from what i've read, the 350 swap is very common. The engine bay on your truck is shorter than the later trucks, so you might look into the 4.3 chevy swap. It's quite a bit shorter than the 350 and will still have some nice power to it.
