Timing Chain

Hey just a quick question about timing chain replacement on a 22r. When i get both cam and crank on TDC , and have my chain on, there is still a bit of slack on the driver side. Even after the tensioner and guides are in place. When i rotate the crank by hand it turns about 10-12 degrees before the cam starts to turn. Is that right ? seem to me to be a bit to much slack. Dont want to throw it all back together till its lined out right.
Appreciate any help
