i'm trying to pull a spark plug on a 97 3.4L 4runner. I can't find where they are. Any help would be awesome.

 

open the hood, look in the cylinder head, 3 on the left, 3 on the right


look underneath the plug wire/coil packs...

 

are the plug wire/ coil packs the black blocks on the left and then the suction cup type things on the right?

 

the "black boxes" are the coilpacks the "black suction cup..." are the wires/plugs... its an indirect ignition, one coilpack controls that cylinder and the opposing plugged cylinder. The coilpacks are held in with a 10mm bolt, its easiest if you removed the air intake tube. Unplug the coilpack, remove bolt and pull. The plugs just need to be pulled, this is easiest by removing the ground bolt on the plenum and moving a few hoses out of the way. Don't pull the plug out by the wire, or you'll ruin the wire and have to replace it... and if your removing the spark plug remember when re-installing them to get them tight but not so tight you strip out the threads in the head.

i found it best to have a plenty of extensions a sparkplug socket and a set of metric deep sockets remove the sparkplug with the sparkplug socket after you remove the plugs use the sparkplug socket to get the new ones started only a few turns then switch over to the metric get it snug then a half turn
