Safe method for determining dual transfer case shift pattern

Greetings. So I bought an 86 Xtracab 4x4 with dual transfer cases. The 5-speed shifter is the standard "H" pattern, but the seller mentioned that he had used non-standard patterns for the transfer cases during his installation (I don't understand how that's possible or desirable, but anyway). Could somebody please suggest a safe method for going about determining the shift patterns on the two transfer case shifters? Thank you.

might help to post a picture of your shift set up. There are 3 configurations i can think of for dual cases
1) both cases using stock selectors where the front case will only be high and low
2) Twin sticks, where one will be for high/low on the front case, the other stick will be for selecting 2wd, 4wd and hi/low for the rear case
3) triple sticks, left stick for 2wd/4wd on rear case, center stick low/high on front case, right stick low/high on rear case

Used a 2nd gen rear heat console and the Tuffy Security console I had in my old Trekker
I’ll need to find some interior spray that matches the interior better.
Overall happy with how it came out.
With the console in place I can knock out the seat mounts
