Oil pan question for 83 Toyota

Hi all,

I have a 83 Toyota 4x4 and I purchased a new oil pan as the old one was damaged and leaking. I just purchased the truck less than a month ago. I ordered an oil pan for a 4x4 off the Autozone website. I went to install it today and its a lot different than my old one. I was trying to find my engine block number to see if I might have ordered the wrong one...well I must have. Can anyone advise me on the type of pan I need to buy. I have attached several pictures of the old and new pan. My oil pickup tube is in the center of the engine and this new oil pan will not fit. Even the metal spot welded inside the new pan are way different..Anyway thanks for your time...Kyle

Tell Autozone it's the wrong one and have the either order the right one or refund your money...

Try junkyards, online classifieds, craigslist etc. Either on this site, Marlin Crawler forum, or Pirate4x4. No reason you shouldn't be able to find one from one of those places. While you're at it, do a little research. What I've heard is that if you get an oil pan from a later model 4x4, like an 86 or so, they got rid of that raised ridge along the pan to block mating surface, so you can use rtv to seal it, and it will not leak like these pans that were meant to have gaskets used with them do. The early model pans like ours are meant to be sealed with a cork gasket and they always leak.

Thanks Zach for the reply. I did take the pan back and got a refund. They looked through their computer and searched all Toyotas and they couldn't match anything up to my oil pan at all. The cork gasket I had bought before though did match up fine. Yes I will check out Craigslist and the local junk yards. I hear ya on the other pans. I hate any oil leaking. Thanks again Kyle
