Been running one for a about a year, a Moroso 85474 without issue mounted in similar area on the stock box with quality hoses and fitting. Never a CEL, probably the hoses you are using or the connections. I get about 2 teaspoons of oil every 2-3 months and I am running 4W40 Amsoil on a 1997 3.4L with 240,000 kms. wyoming9 is correct, vacuum leak.

I have 167k and was getting oil in my k&n intake, or more like a caramel sludge thing. So i thought I'd give the oil catch can a try. I just tightened everything down, one of the connections to the hose was a little loose. Gotta take it for a dive tonight. But while putting under coat on my car today, I just realized I have a crack in my muffler. I wonder if that has anything to do with it as well.
