Newb Head gasket question

To start with hello since I am new here. I just bought a 94 4Runner SR5 with the 3.0l/auto. I knew coming into it that it needed head gaskets. I already had plans of doeing the w/p and timing belt since it's apart. My questions are, since I started the teardown this evening. Is there a trick to getting the cam gears off? and does the intake have to come off? (I know the plentum does, thats already on the bench.)

Answered my own cam sprocket question after looking in the right place. I just don't want to pull the intake if I don't have too

If anyone cared, figured out how to get it apart. Had to tear the intake off a couple extra times due to vaccume leaks popping out. Had to re-replace a coupel of the small coolant bypass hoses. Broke/lost the fan shroud. Radiator crumbled. But it runs about as good as I expect a 15 year old 150k miled import v6 to. Not goeign to win any street races( not that it was ever part of the plan), and a little embarrasing getting passed by a prius uphill. One saved from a flat death though. Working bugs out and beatign it up now.

Welcome to yotatech!

I don't have much advice on the 3.0L engine as my experience is on the 22RE.

Also noticed you have a divided loyalty between the Nissan pathy and toyota 4runner by your screen name! Both are excellent vehicles.

One thing you will never catch me doeing is badmouthing my Pathfinder, but the 4runner is the new kid in the driveway so I can't get mad at the issues that pop up from lack of maintnance from the PO. Seems a little more my speed around here than the 4runner specific site. Too much emphasis on mall crawlin there. Just happy the little guy is running now.
