MAF Problem with Cold Air return

MAF Problem with Cold Air return
Has anyone had success changing the MAF Sensor with a high performance sensor?
I have a 99 4-Runner with a Volant Cold Air return, been running it for four years without a hitch. Just this year the MAF Sensor has been malfunctioning, I have cleaned it several times but it has now stopped responding resulting in the engine running very lean. I need to replace it but fear the stock MAF sensor just cannot handle the air-intake and will fail again. I am running a dry filter with a pre-filter cover.
I am looking at the Jet Performance Pro-Flow Mass Air Sensor as an option.

Had your sensor been replaced before??If not this is only 15 years old a shame it failed after only 15 years .
Things do wear out if your new sensor sends the same signal go for it.

This will be my first replacement, I just thought before I spend the money see if a performance sensor would make a difference. When I replaced the intake I saw increased mileage and performance so why not see if adding one more level helps.
Thanks for the quick reply

I am curious just what kind of difference it can make the amount of air moving through is still going to be the same. They say a 41% increase but your still limited by the throttle body size
a lot of this is keep up with the women next door kind of thing
I looked through all the Summit Racing Listings And found nothing that would work on My 2000 3.4
Do you have a part #
If they worked as claimed would it not be all over in the 3.4 swap section.

The part #69148 to fit a 99 4-runner. I did search the 'swap' section and only found issues with MAF's using the cold air intake oil filters and the read on that from K&N is that the deposits is not accurate (go figure they would defend their filters).
In reading the specs, the assumption for the performance sensor is to maximize air and fuel intake at all levels not just at higher rpm's. Or so they say - again this is why I am asking versus taking the manufactures word.
