I just bought a new 42 inch curved light bar and it came mounting brackets. I will but I don't really want to put 2 holes through my roof to mount it on, any suggestions or examples. If you have a different sort of CHEAP mounting system, or if you have a way to do it that doesn't allow any leaks or rust let me know. I don't know how and don't have the tools to fabricate my own.... Help Please!
This will probably end up costing you more than the light cost, but get some gutter mounts and use the rain gutters. Google rain gutter light brackets and there are a ton of ideas. Post up whatever you do, I'd love to see it.
i made a set of gutter mount bracks out of some 2" flat stock f when i had a light bar on my 81 (it would use similar mounts as you would)
I took it off after about 2 months, the whistling from the light bar drove me nuts and the way the light would flood the cab with the light on sucked.

I used some angle as the gutter clamp
It was very stable.
Mine was a 42 or 44"
If I were to do it again I would have used a curved light bar.
But as mentioned above I eventually pulled it due to the glare and the whistling.
Check the amp draw of any light bar you get, some of them pull way more juice than others and if you have not upgraded your alternator you will tax your system.
Definitely run good wiring, switch and a relay.
I thought I saw on Dave's FB page he had a kit for other Gen's
