Engine Swap

Some of you might have read my other thread concerning a rod knock with my 3VZE. After I scowered craigslist in search of a motor, the only one I have found was more than what I paid for the truck, albeit I did not pay that much for the truck, but nonetheless I really can not see paying more for an engine than I did for the vehicle in the first place.

I did however find a 22R out of an 88 that is more of my price range. Is it possible to mate a 22R with the R150F 5 speed manual tranny? Probably not, but worth a shot.

If not, anyone know where I can score a cheap running 3VZE? Even a shortblock would work, I can transfer parts over.

Yes, it is possible to attach a R150F tranny to a 22R/RE. Problem is that it requires the reasonably rare R151 turbo bellhousing and finding one of them could be quite expensive. Also, converting from a 3VZE (EFI) to a 22R (carb) requires a different fuel tank or at least a removal of the stock in-tank fuel pump and a custom fuel pickup, different exhaust, different wiring harness, your tach (if equipped) won't work right, etc, etc.etc. In the end, it would undoubtedly be cheaper and far easier to get another 3VZE.

Blech, that does sound like quite a bit of work and quite a bit more pricy. Thanks for the info.

Will a 3.4L fit a R150F Tranny? Cause this one is fairly close and in my price range: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-...QQcmdZViewItem
