Climate controls

My 2002 prerunner heater control defaults to hot, I can play with it for awhile and get it to kick over to cool, but eventually kicks back to ghot air.
Dealer says $1,200.00 replacement...any suggestions?

Go under the hood, there is a little box about the size of a post it note that has a cable running to it. This is where your hot/cold adjustment is, it has a ball valve in it that shuts on or off the blow to the heater core. Double check its adjusted right and closing/opening.
