So the motor went out on my 2nd gen 4runner so I just unplugged it so I didn't have to hear the noise and then I went through a tree or something and now my antenna looks ridiculous so I looked around a found that the "Tacoma Whip Antenna Mod" is an option so I looked threw this, http://www.4runners.org/writeups/whip/index.html and found the part number for the 2nd gen. It is way more expensive so i'm wondering if I could just purchase the Tacoma Whip and plug it right into the non working motor I already have? If not, will the 3rd gen 4runner antenna assy (86300-35090) work in the 2nd gen with the Tacoma Whip? (86309-AA040) If anyone has done this or has another option for me, I greatly appreciate it. P.S I am not to big of a fan of the power antennas seeing how things get pretty cold in the winter and i'm pretty sure that's how mine broke. I found a thread where someone built a mod so he could flip a switch for the antenna which seems legit but that may be my plan B.

I bought a cheap rubber mast and moved it to the top/back of the truck. $4 extension for the cable to reach the radio.





I didn't want the ghetto Joust Antenna or one pointing off to Nevernever land. So this was an acceptable option for me. Total cost was less than $25 and an afternoon of work.

 

not sure this is going to help you or not, but I will post it up anyways. My son's 88 4runner HAD a power antenna. It did not work, was bent, broken and missing pieces. did not matter because he did not have a stereo. fast forward and we installed a stereo and a normal antenna. since his body line and the body line on my 92 truck were similar, I ordered and plain jane stationary one and it installed easily, works flawlessly and looks great. and it's quite a bit more substantial that the OEM one on my truck. I just had to search for it using MY INFO for my truck versus one for his. I believe it was a whopping $9 delivered from crutchfield.com . In my opinion, if you are looking to ditch the electric one....which it kinda sounds like you want to, I would recommend this one....if you believe the body lines and contours are similar. being that my 92 truck and your 4runner have similar fenders, I would think it to be a direct fit.
