Considering my 87 pickup came fresh from toyota's factory 23 yrs ago with a whooping 103 hp on a good day and the chances of all of those 103 horses still being there are highly unlikely. what am i to expect in hp gains from a camshaft, header, exhaust, high spark coil etc... can we get 125? 150? or to get those numbers are we talking about boring a block 0.20 over and rebuilding everything..

just wanted to realistic expectations..

I/H/E with a mild cam i dont see why you wouldnt get 20-30 hp but then again it all depends on you getting a good tune up too!

I have an LCE header and exhaust on mine and it made a gear's worth of difference on the long uphill highway sections. Also just has more "pep" to it. Never had it dyno'd but I know I had some gains as a result. I'd imagaine a cam and cold air intake could really unleash the 2.4 liters

Popular bolt ons for this motor and the 22RE are:
- Header
- High flow exhaust
- Cold air intake/battery & intake swap (air doesn't flow over radiator anymore)
- Cam
- bored out throttle body
- 1982 Suptra AFM mod (it's plug n play and makes for faser throttle response)

You may want to clean your injectors too if it's never been done (www.witchhunter.com); and, if you never have, replacing your timing chain and chain guides with metal ones is a smart play. Not that the chain will add power, but it could save your engine before it's too late.

Good luck!

If the motor is un-rebuilt you might get back to 103HP
