Hello everyone,

I am going to take my truck in for a steering rod recall??

It is sometype of safety recall and I am going to have it fixed next week. My local dealership just called me today and said they have my part in for the repair.

Does anyone know why this has just come up? The truck is a 1990?? I thought a safety issue would of been fixed awhile ago? They checked my vin and said he needs to be done.

Standard procedure. They'll just take it for a few hours max, i think mine was a total of 1 hour. Re-align the front end and ur back on the road, never noticed a difference, just peace of mind. Best part - FREE!!

Oh ya I forgot about the alignment...if you need to do anything to the front end soon requiring an alignment afterwards, do that first and get the alignment free when they replace the relay rod.

Another reason why I love TOYOTA. The recall started in the early 2000s. I want to say '03 or '04. Steering rod can possibly crack and break, causing loss of steering and control of vehicle. No actual reported incidents. A few alleged. For '89-'95.5 trucks, '90-'95 4runners and '93-'98 T100s. A company doing a recall on vehicles that are 10+ years old is OKAY in my books. And, continuing to do them.

Had the dealership in Anchorage do the recall on my '93 when I lived down that way in '06. free alignment, and they threw in a free oil change. My truck was there for 4 hours.

My '95 4Runner still needs to get it done. I need to replace balljoints and a few steering parts, and get new tires. Then I will probably get it done

'90-'95 4Runners. Have your local dealership(s) look up the VIN to see if it has been done on yours.

Just got this recall done
Just got this recall done and it included an alignment.

It was a 2 and a half hour job however.....Just took the toyota shuttle bus home and got the wife to drop me back off at the dealer to pick it up. Plus they did an inspection and gave it a clean bill of health Can't believe they could not find anything wrong with this 11 year old truck?! They were selling repairs when I got their....to other toyota owners: you need a cabin filter, air filter, coolant flush etc.
Maybe they got more than 50,600 on the odo...
