I just bought a 2006 4Runner. The badges on the body indicate it's a Sport Edition. But the dealer invoices indicate it's an SR5. At this point I'm not sure Toyota knows! How do I find out definitively which trimline it really is?

Well, I am not entirely sure but the VIN decoder on this site lists this 4Runner as an SR5 but it may not be 100% accurate.

Maybe SR5 Sport Edition?

Many of the OEM parts websites lists my 1987 2WD truck as a 4Runner.

Right. Here's the issue; apparently one headlight assembly fits the Limited/SR5 and another fits the Sport. So I don't know which headlight assembly to purchase. I'm in a bind here.

 

I started to suggest a site like http://parts.toyotaofdallas.com/ as it allows you to enter your vin and it tells you if the part fits, but I tried it first, and when I entered your VIN, it prompts with a message saying select the one which best describes your vehicle. Seems Toyota cannot even tell using the VIN. You might try calling their internet parts department and ask them for assistance. They have always been very helpful.
