Good morning. Looking for some advice regarding purchase of a Tacoma for my son. He's heading off to college and is looking for a late model, high mileage Tacoma to get him through college and beyond. His price limit is about $8k.

I've read that there were some safety upgrades at the '09 model, so we were looking at '09 and later. The only '09's we can find that are within his price range are >220k miles. How many additional miles are reasonable to expect from a Tacoma with that many miles? Assuming of course that it was well maintained and that he will do the same.

There are several '05-'06's with about 170k miles that are also within his price range. As side from the safety upgrades - any thoughts on the additional years vs miles?

I just had a recall on my 2012. The EVAP system. Air injection, VSV and charcoal canister. It was free replacement but a hassle as are any problems. Apparently, it is common on many 2012 Tacomas.
