Hello Guys. This is my first post. Without having to go into a very long story, I've gotta replace the V-6 4.0 engine in my 2005 4Runner as it blew the other day resulting in 4 punched holes in the block from the broken Rod(s). I'm trying to get it replaced and the The Engine Identifier letter is Z In My VIN. Except I'm having trouble trying to locate the engine code for the Z. My VIN is: JTEZU17R850046636
According to Wikipedia, it looks like the 1GR-FE. Please remember that no intelligent teacher will accept Wikipedia as a scholarly source, so you should verify.
Thanks so much for going to the trouble to look it up. I had checked a few sites but didn't find anything definitive. One site listed it as 2AZ-FXE. But I still haven't been able to verify that. I may have to resort to contacting Toyota to confirm it. But I do appreciate you going out of your way to look.
This should be a 2AZ-FXE (I can't swear to it):
I haven't found any pictures that say 'This is a 2AZ-FXE.' However, all of the images I find with any visible labelling/markings when searching for images have some label saying 'Hybrid' or 'Synergy'.
Well I must have got my wires crossed somewhere. Because I was under the impression that The Z in My VIN was the letter that pointed to the engine. But everyone is looking at the U that follows after the Z. Anyway. I thank you. I did find a few engines.. Lots of Salvaged ones of which the only one that sparked my interest had 48K in the mileage and sells for 2795.00. Also many rebuilds from 2500.00 to 5k. So there is light at the end of this long dark tunnel! I wish you well!
