'06 DC Taco with manual tranny

Anyone had the following issue ... I just bought this truck about 2 weeks ago ...

When shifting up between gears, engine revs stay at or a little higher than where they were when I let off the gas and engage the clutch to shift gears. Seems to occur more often in 2nd-6th gears. 1st gear seems to fall off as expected when letting off gas to shift gears. Also, when coming off speed down to a stop and you just put tranny into neutral, revs come down and stay around 1100 rpm's until under 10 mph. then goes down to 600-700 rpms.

About to take to dealership, but wanted to ask if anyone else has seen this behavior.

Thanks,
Dave

Does it seem to be slipping much?

Could be low on fluid.

Nope, no slipping ....

Thought that maybe it is a bad throttle position sensor, but dealership should be able to tell me more.

Thanks,
Dave

I just picked up a 2007 Tacoma Access Cab 4WD with the 6 speed. I noticed the same odd behavior. At speed, when I depress the clutch, the RPM doesn't drop to idle. It stays around 1,200 or maybe a little more. When the speed of the vehicle is slow, it doesn't do that. It does drop to idle. I suspect Toyota considers it a "feature" to make shifting easier by keeping the RPMs up a bit. Bleh.

I have to say I'm a bit lukewarm on the new truck. It replaced a 95 Tacoma with 192k miles. I think I liked the old truck better. While there are a few things better in the new vehicle (elocker, larger engine, passenger airbag, composite bed liner), there are some things that aren't. No ignition switch light, or glovebox light. The red time and temp displays are next to impossible to read during the day when wearing polarized sunglasses. And why 6 speeds? Isn't 5 enough? No handle over the passenger door.

But for me the kicker is the size. Compared to the old truck it's a beast! If I wanted a big truck I would have gotten a Tundra. I LIKED the smaller vehicle. The word "nimble" comes to mind.

Still, for my situation it's the optimum new vehicle. Maybe I'll grow to love it. But a little voice tells me I probably should have taken a third of the money and rebuilt the 95 Tacoma....

Whew!!!

Thank God .... I thought I was the only one to have noticed this behavior ... I hope that the dealership is able to give me an answer on it.

The 6 speeds are nice, but the 6th gear should have been higher ... highway speeds (65-70) are around 2300 rpm. And in colorado where we have a 75 mph speed limit, you're pushing 2600-2800 rpms ... no wonder the highway mpg is only 21. The 6th gear should, IMHO, put around 2000-2100 for those kind of speeds.

Thanks,
Dave
