Ok, so I have a rear differential with a sensor on top, and one without. They are both Vv-6 differentials and both 4.56 gears. Why is there a difference? Similar years, 1990-1995 4Runners. Are they interchangeable? Problems or codes that would come about? What does the sensor do?

Thanks!
Rob

well for one, that top differential looks like it's out of a front axle..
note the front driveline shaped rust mark on the pinion flange.

I personally removed the one you are questioning out of a rear axle. I sold it to a gentleman already. I found another one that I picked up, now I was just curious about the sensor. Didnt know if it was a pressure sensor or ABS. ABS makes sense. My old explorer had a sensor in the same place on the Rear Diff.

Thanks for the help!

not on that 99 explorer. It was bad, speedo still worked. It was the ABS sensor.
