About 6 months ago, I installed a weber carb on my 22r. It has been running great until recently the idle has become a little rough --not bad just a little stumble and surge now and then. I have read that this two piece adaptor is prone to leaks so I sprayed around the base of it with some carb cleaner, and I really wasn't sure if I found anything at first, he toms may have come up a little and smoothed out, or I may have imagined it. So, I nuked the base with carb cleaner and I got it to stumble (presumably from being too rich) and that I didn't imagine.

I know lce makes a nice adaptor that should solve this problem, and that's what I would do if this were my daily driver or my 4x4, but this is just my beater work truck. Does anyone know of any good white trash (meaning cheap) fixes. I am considering either cutting new gaskets or smearing rtv on it. It is a nice Spanish weber though and I don't want to screw it up... Thanks for the ideas.

 

Well, spraying enough carb cleaner around the base will still get some of the cleaner in the carb. Since it is extremely volatile, it will turn to gas and get sucked up into the carb. It would be better to use a gasket then RTV. It can be very difficult to get RTV off the base of the carb.

 

I used Honda Bond, the same stuff you use on the engine cases of ATVs and Motorcycle engines. The trick is the stuff is fuel resistant, unlike RTV which fuel will melt away. Can be had at any good ATV dealer.
