W56-C Trans pops out of 1st and no 3rd

Hello guys, almost on the home stretch on my Xtracab engine and trans swap project and seemed to have run into a wall.

I have a later model W56 with the forward shift T-Case. And my issues with it are: when I shift into first gear it will pop out if I rock the truck with the clutch pedal. If I hold the shifter into first it will stay and engage fine. Third gear doesnt engage at all. If I hold the shifter in and release the clutch it will grind. I got the truck to slightly roll that way but I think its just because its probably slightly meshing together. I bought the trans when it was out of a vehicle.

On the Transmission I have the LCE Short Shifter kit with the shifter extension, new bushings and tower spacer. And as for fluid I went with 85w-140 due to the mileage the trans may have. I have no reason to believe its the shifter. I did pull it apart to double check things and it seems to be fine. I tried shifting the trans into third with the tower open and I cant get it to engage at all.

So, before I try to source another trans can anyone confirm or point to a possible issue here? I was hoping to get this thing street worthy just in case we get some snow.

Here's a video of me demonstrating the issue.

I had a transmission where 1st and 3rd were out. I am thinking some how they share something in common and is just a matter of time before first goes out on you. I think you are going to need to replace the transmission. That is what I had to do.

Damn. I guess I knew that and needed to be confirmed.

Already have lines on two W56c transmissions so I can reuse my short shifter. One has been stored for twelve years from a truck that was rotted and scrapped with 98k on it. But the guy is asking $450 and said he'll take a reasonable offer.

The other has 220k and from a friend of a friend. But haven't got to prices or condition yet. But it was driven by them. Said the t-case was rebuilt at some point.

It was used right up till the wife in the midst of the divorce took out the engine.

It is in the truck yet !!

If you want pull it out and you can have whatever parts you want gratis off the truck.

Have the one you have rebuilt that way your 100% sure what you have ****.

So I ended up picking up a Transmission locally. The guy said it came out of a 90 22RE truck he parted out and scrapped 12 years ago because of rust.

Turns out it's from an earlier model carbureted truck. Looks to be a G54 from the research I did. He originally wanted $450 for it but being that I was expecting it to be another transmission from the info he gave and he really didn't wanna leave it around. I got it for $60. lol

I'll take a shot with it. Im only concerned if the transmission mount from the w56 will bolt to the G54. And I'm pretty bummed that I can't use the short throw kit I bought for the w56. Marlin makes one for the g54 but I can't justify the price.
