I'm wanting to order a rebuilt transmission from Marlin Crawler, but they said I need to find out which transmission I have. A W56-C or a G58. Someone from Marlin Crawler said that I can tell by looking at the back of the tcase. He said if it has 7+ bolts, it's chain driven and i have a G58 trans. If it has 7 bolts, it's gear driven and I have the W56-C transmission. I assume this is true, so now I need to hop under and check it out. I was just wondering if someone had a picture of their tcase so I know exactly what I'm looking for. (still not too good at the mechanical aspect of cars/trucks) Im 99.9% sure that I know where the tcase is, but I'm not wanting to risk messing up a $2,000+ purchase.

I first thought I had the W56 cause it's seen on my manufacture plate, but maybe it's on all Toyota Pickups?

You have a W56. G58s are behind '90-'95 4cylinder manual 4Runners and, AFAIK, '89-'95.5 4cyl manual trucks that have ADD (non-manual hubs)

Also, your VIN plate says w56. My '95 22re 4Runner says G58 there.

The transfer case is at the back end of the transmission. The bolts hes refering to are the ones you will see around the outter sedge of the transfer case looking at it from the rear of the truck.

Not a problem. Good luck. Maybe take a picture of your transfer case's rear end and post it to make sure.

 

Funny how I wrote this post and started all my research right before my transmission and clutch died. Literally 2 hours after I wrote this post my truck stops driving and I have to get towed home lol.
