valve clatter help 89 22re (post searches)
I have read several threads with clatter and valve in them on several boards and yes, I still could use some some of your help. (short version: will adjusting the valves help?)
I am chasing down several issues to try to get my aftermarket cruise to work,
I have also recently noticed some valve clatter since it is warming up. This is my first summer with a 22re truck so maybe this is normal.
When I am throttling up, light foot or heavy, I sometimes hear a mild valve clatter, that doesnt seem to increase or decrease in intensity if I floor it or baby it. I am worried about it being detonation. It never clatters while idleing or reving the engine. It only makes this noise under load.
I recently changed the TPS (never returned to 0), cleaned the throttle body, and plenum (yuck), and set the timing by the book (FSM) and a new fuel filter
and 2 or 3 months ago the EGR valve (old one was stuck), plugs, distributor cap, spark plug cables, new air filter, PCV valve and gromet, and did a FSM by the book systems check of everything related to the EGR system.
I was getting 21 MPG, and suddenly I am getting less but I am driving in town more, and using AC so it may just be driving habits.
ANy other ideas, thanks
