V6 Caliper Anti-Rattle Clips / Springs

Hey guys,

I've been running some V6 calipers from a 1990 4Runner on my 88 for a few years now (I think it is the S12W casting). Simple bolt on with a little clearancing of the dust shield, as we all are familiar with.

Multiple times I have had to replace the little W-shaped spring clips. This time when I took the wheels off I found that one caliper had let them go and they got chewed up and another was missing one. How are these things falling off??

I have seen a few pictures of an alternative anti-rattle clip. It's the flat cross shaped thing marked X2 47748:

It has the same part number as the W clips.

Does anyone know anything about this different clip? Where can I get one?

The spring clip for mine has the pin for the calipers going through them, so it's impossible for it to fall off.

Did you run the clip through the pin that goes through the caliper? These are the pins that hold the brake pad in place...

I still have the retaining pins (47748A) that go through the cross-drilled holes on the end of the caliper slider pins.

Yes, I installed the W-clips the correct way through the caliper pins. Not sure how they manage to get free!
