Update on Rebuilt 3.0 from last year 2013
Well I came on here last year after I purchased my 4runner 1993 3.0 v6.
Here is my post:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...e-3-0l-265588/
I went against a lot of peoples recommendations on not to rebuild the 3.0 and instead do the 3.4 conversion, I DID NOT LISTEN.
I got the Head Gasket Problem last week, just driving down the road. I LOVE MY 4RUNNER.. its been really trouble free almost a year. Never had an issue whatsoever, and then the white plume smoke and opened the oil cap and saw the white cloudy substance.. and I knew it was the dreaded Head Gasket.
My mecahnic said he can fix it for $1,000. But Im going to be honest with everyone on here.. I was not going to shell out any more money. I used the blue devil head gasket repair and it worked... Im not sure how long the blue devil head gasket repair was going to last.. but deep down in my heart I was not going to put nothing more than $200 dollars..
I screwed up and totally lost my $3,300 dollars. Im sorry guys, I should have listened and done the 3.4 conversion, so this is a heads up for anyone out there..
Finally yesterday towing my boat (to test the blue devil head gasket repair job), I CRASHED my 4runner to a person who caught me off and i wasnt able to stop in time, so my 4runner is totaled.. wow..
Anyways, ill let bygones be bygones, Im currently in the market for the 96-2002 4runner I fell in love with the 4runners though, they are so comfortable and such a great ride.. just the engine was the only downfall
thanks!! this was just an heads up to anyone here..

My personal take is to build an engine locally. Dealing with people out of State is problematic at best. Buy your own parts so you know what went into it. Use a local guy with a good reputation among the hot rod community.

cheappc- was the engine built by a engine builder or did you build it? what parts (like the head gasket) where used?
In 99.9% of Toyota's with a failed head gasket the head AND THE BLOCK need to be shaved to get both surfaces flat again. Most people skip shaving the block in a basic rebuild. Toyota's, especially our trucks, are known for the small head gasket leaks that will over time turn into a major blown head gasket. The slow leak over time eats away at the metal around the leak requiring both the head and block be shaved to correct the problem. More than likely your head gasket has been leaking for some time and finally let go.

He was reputable, I believe he did, once he rebuilt a Chevy engine for me that lasted 10 years..
I sold my 4runner for $800 like it was totaled, and bought me a 2000 tundra ext cab 4x4 for $2280..
