I have a 1991 regular cab 4X4 with 22RE and it will be used on road only and occasionally light to moderate towing. The truck will be used for a lot of short trips empty and occasionally towing a all aluminum 2 place snowmobile trailer with a varying load, anywhere from only (1) 300 lb 3 wheeler to 2 snowmobiles. I would also like to have gearing to run interstate speeds as well. I would like to get Michelin LTX M/S2 tires in 235/75R15. From searching on this forum and not from experience I feel the 235's will get about the same fuel milage as 31". The 235's turn more RPM which burns more fuel but is offset by the less rotating weight but the smaller 235's will have better power when I am towing. I am concerned the 235's will make the engine really scream on the interstate though. I really like the looks of the 31's better but feal the 235's will be my best tire for what I am doing if it was not for running on the interstate. Is this the best tire for my use???

 

Stay as close to stock tire size as possible if your not changing gearing? These trucks come built for what your describing, only reseon to change anything is because somthing else has been changed. With stock gearing, smaller tires is gonna give you lower gearing, better for pulling, and slightly larger tires may yeild slightly better mpg when not towing. Depends on what you do most. If your not sure then stick with stock size tires, as that is the best guess that fits most peoples needs for what they use their trucks for.

 

look for a tall and skinny tire. somthing in the 85 series size. tall=low RPM skinny=low roloing resistance (better MPG) plus most 85 series tires are plenty heavy duty and will give you great wear....

yes. if you cant find one in your area look for a 31/8.50-15 type thing..
