"TESTING" cv joints

I know clicking/popping is a sign of your cv axles begining to fail. What about 4x4 with locking hubs. when in 2wd with hubs unlocked they never move so if I think myne are going out would I have to lock them in and leave in 2wd or actually remove rear driveline and put in 4wd and drive

Ummm ... I don't understand the question.

Yes, if you lock the front hubs, the CV's will spin regardless of if you're in 2WD or 4WD.

Yes, if you lock the front hubs, remove the rear driveshaft, put it in 4WD, and drive (in front wheel drive) the CV's will spin.

But you could simply jack up the front of the truck and spin the CV's by hand and feel for binding.

What makes you think your CV's are going bad?
