I rescently rolled my 98 t100 extended cab 4wd 5speed that ive bought new. I have decided on the 4runner to swap the 3.4 to, ive found several good choises with blown 3.0 motors for a reasonable price. The year models have been 93 to 95 mainly for the ones im considering. I have researched forums about the 3.4 to a 4runner 4wd, what would be different to do the 2wd swap?
Any info would be apreciated, as for my experince level ive done several engine swaps that didnt come that way from factory, and everything came out well. Also I havent measured wheel base for the 4runner, my body is trashed but my frame and drivetrain is near 100%. Was just wondering about a body swap.

 

Not sure why you'd want to swap from a 4x4 into a 2wd, but it could be done.

I'd suggest finding a 5 speed, 4wd 4Runner and simply do the engine swap. It's almost bolt-in in its simplicity and would give you a 4wd with decent power.

 

Not quite bolt-in nor simple, but probably as easy as engine swaps come - especially if you have the complete donor vehicle.

If you'll note, I said "almost bolt-in". There are very few mods required for this swap. In the end, it was quite simple, compared to swapping any other engines in. I'd do another one with no hesitation and could have it done in under a week, knowing what I now know.

All the mechanical bits are pretty easy. The electrical is the biggest hurdle and even that one isn't too tough, once you understand the goal.

My wifes truck is a 05 F250 crew cab 4x4 turbo diesel, and the next progect is my fathers old 77 jeep chreokee.
I lean tward a clean looking 93 4wd 4runner ive found for $1800, but Ive also found a 95 2wd for $400. Very hard to pass that up if its as nice as the owner says. Checking out the 2wd tomorrow, I will search the forums in links posted above to gain info. Thanks.
