So I have looked through many post and can't seem to find exactly what is going on.. So my 93 4runners speedometer and odometer don't work. I have replaced both speed sensors. It is an automatic transmission. Does anybody have an idea as to where I should go next.
Do you have an electronic or cable driven speedometer? I am not sure what year they switched over but the test procedure is going to be different depending on which one you have.
Here is how to test the electronic speed sensor, make sure it is sending out a signal before you do anything else...
-Unplug the VSS#2. This is the one with 3 wires going to it (black/orange, green/blue, green/red).
-Hook up the sensor as shown below. Make sure not to short the positive jumper wire to ground or you will melt a wire. I use fused jumper wires when doing these types of tests.
-Raise the rear wheels and put on jackstands. Rotate the driveshaft.
-The multimeter should switch from 0 volts to battery voltage 4 times for every revolution of the drive shaft.
Edit for clarity... Pin 1 of the VSS is the one that would normally have the black/orange wire connected to it when the harness is connected. This is the VSS pin that will receive + battery voltage.
