seat belts swap from right to left?

92 pickup: Are they the same and can be swapped or will the decel mechanism be backwards? Thanks

From memory I think they looked the same. From the factory they have little number stickers on them and they count up, no two are the same, so maybe there's a difference. I think the biggest thing is the spooling part will face the opposite direction when installed on the other side of the vehicle which might not fit. Also it's designed so if you slam on the brakes, it locks the strap up, that might not function right when installed on the wrong side.

In addition I think the mounting tabs are mirror image so you can not put left side onto right side.

Once you have them out its pretty easy to unspool the webbing and remove the belt from the drum. You can then swap just the belt if that what you're after.

The spring return is very weak on the driver's side. I saw this write up and will give it a shot: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/minutemods/seatbelt/

I've read that cleaning the strap and lubing it with silicone spray helps a lot, never tried personally, but have had plenty of lazy seat belts in my Toyota's/Lexus's

I tried the spring winding-up method on the drivers side and that didn't help much. So I decided to try to swap left to right and it worked, same part#, mirror image works fine in this situation. Decel stop rolling ball rolls both ways front or back so seat belt should lockup as usual.
