Oil Leak Question
Hey guys and girls,
I'm scratching my head here trying to figure out what could have leaked oil all over the damn place so any input is greatly appreciated.
I checked the oil level on my 88' 22re before doing a trip up to the ski hill (around 250km's away) and it was fine. It was super early and there was no traffic out so I was driving at a steady 100-115km/h which sounds like the engine is at about 3500-4500rpm's (i regeared to 4.88's on 32" tires). By the time i reached the bottom of the hill i smelled burning oil but figured it could be the car that just pulled infront of me. When that car took a turnoff and i still could smell the oil burning i pulled over to check what was going on. The dipstick was completely dry and the notorious toyota oil bomb had gone off under the hood. I filled it back up to the normal level with extra oil that i had as a backup and towed it as far as i could get with my BCAA card. After re-checking the oil level nothing had leaked since the tow so i warmed the engine up and checked for leaks. Couldnt find anything so i drove it slowly home checking constantly for any loss of oil. Made it all the way home without losing a drop...Its now been almost a month and it still hasnt leaked any oil. I cleaned the engine up and have been monitoring it every time i use it. Now i know you're all thinking front main but i've recently replaced that and it sprayed everywhere when that was going (it was intermitent as well) but this is ONLY on the drivers side of the engine. Here's a list of recent work:
Front main seal
Timing cover
Water pump
Oil Pan
Valve cover
PCV valve
There appears to be no oil at all around the pulley's. Nothing near the valve cover. Nothing from the distributer...If it were possible it looks like it would be coming from the power steering pump but i dont know what else could leak in that area. Any ideas/experience is much appreciated. I'm thinking it has something to do with sustained higher rpms considering it hasnt leaked a drop since the trip. Its annoying not being able to trust that it wont dump all its oil on another trip though...
Thanks again!

I didnt have time to do the work so i had a shop do it. I've heard that it can get a groove in it and still leak oil. Wouldnt it hit the pulley and spin to both sides though like when the seal goes? Also when my front main was leaking (and the oil bomb always looked terrible) it never leaked 3+ liters of oil out that fast...
