Name that switch or what ever it is.

On the transmission (5spd) in my 86 4Runner just below the shifter is a switch or something screwed into the side of the transmission, it has a short piece of wire comming out of it with a white plug on the end of it, is this the back up light switch or something else ?.

It only has one wire comming out of it, with a white plug on the end of it. I kind of figured it was the back up light switch, so im guessing the way that it works is by completing the ground when you shift into reverse ?. Im trying to figure this out and get my back up lights working again, they havn`t worked since the auto to manual swap was done.
