So I've been driving the wheels off of this thing since my head gasket issues but this morning another issues has popped up. I was driving home from work in 4th gear pulling a hill and the check engine light pops up and stays on maybe 10secs then motor started missing and no power. This happens several times while running highway speeds but clears up on the back roads.
I checked plug wires and sensors I could see top of motor this evening but everything seems fine connection wise anyways. I hopped in it this evening and made it about 2miles and check engine light pops on and truck goes to bucking with no power. Barely got it turned around to get back home.
Any ideas on what direction to look? I feel like it's a sensor crapping out because when it's not acting up it runs great! Plugs and wires were changed back when I had it apart for head gasket.
Thanks!
And REALLY check your plug wires. Specifically 1-3-5 on the passenger side where they pass your EGR. I've melted multiple wires there over the course of a few years and its the same symptoms you have. I would pull your plug wires and check their resistance if they're out of spec change em. This has been my solution most of the time when it starts running rough, the way the wires route along the passenger side the heat seems to deteriorate them quickly. (this happened with both NGK and Denso plug wires). Did you pull the plugs to see what condition they're in? Might give you some indication what's going on and where to start looking if it's not the wires.
related to my comment -- I've put a few of the plug wire holders along the run and it seems to have helped.
One thing you can do to check plug wires, and this isn't a total verification of them by any means, is to look at the wires while the truck is running, in as dark conditions as you can get. At night, as little light as possible shining into the engine compartment. I live out in the country, thankfully, and my yard where I park get's pretty dark. Quite often, if the outer insulation has been damaged/partly melted, is breaking down, whatever, you'll see sparks from the wires to the nearest ground, or other wires. The prettier the light show, the worse off the wires are.
I personally have found a couple sets of wires going bad this way. Quick, easy, safe, way to check real quick.

I've got a ton of things going on around with grading off a new driveway and such so I called my mechanic buddy in on the job. I was attempting to take it to his shop yesterday but didn't make it sadly.
It runs perfectly fine in the yard but once it gets warmed up a couple of miles down the road it starts missing bad and cutting out well this it died completely and wouldn't crank back. So its at the shop now, hopefully nothing major. I'm kinda leaning towards a fuel pump issue. Will update when I find out.
Got the truck back today and it turns out it was the coolant temperature sensor. He was also leaning towards a fuel problem but it had plenty of pressure but did go ahead and change fuel filter. Knock on wood hope this is all for awhile...
