More - My 87 Toyota 4X4 or Fun and mysteries of restoring a Toyota 4X4 that is a "gem

What can I say... I have been chasing a brake fluid leak and a spongy pedal. I replaced everything on the rear hubs and turned the rear drums. I replaced the master cylinder, I bled the system. The front calipers had almost new brake pads on them. I had no wets spots anywhere along the bake lines, wheels anything... I decided I was done and went and bought new (rebuilt) calipers for my truck. Those of you in the know, know my truck has calipers that have dual cylinders. Take a look at what I found when I pulled these old calipers off. The brake pads were almost new, which why I did not see this problem earlier. SOMEBODY PUT NEW PADS ON THESE CALIPERS!!! I CAN"T BELIEVE IT!!!

Then I think about what I found on the rear axle and I really wonder who was working on this truck before me? This is the question I keep asking myself... I actually tried to drive this truck like this and scarier yet some else did drive the truck like this!

Attached is what I found on the driver's side rear axle... The guy that pressed the old bearings off told me water squirted out of the bearing when it came off. It was lubed with water! I had to use a putty knife to scrape this stuff off everything. What a mess!

And this is what I found on the passenger's side axle... I had to chisel this off with a screw driver it was hard as a rock. Look at the brake shoe in the first picture, the truck was trying to stop on the sand compound...

Did I mention that when I replaced the master cylinder the pin was screwed all the way in tight! No wonder I didn't have any brakes...
