Knock sensor interchangeability?

Knock sensor interchangeability?
Has anyone ever tried using a newer version of the knock sensor for the 95-2002, for an older model 3vze say a 1992? They look a bit different with the newer model having a hole in the "eardrum". Only reason I ask is cause I accidentally ordered this newer one and now Id have to wait another week to get the right one. Theyre both DENSO, and apparently have the same part number 89615-50010

Its seems as though they are indeed interchangeable, but the design difference makes me worry.
