I ruined a fusible-link. I could kick myself...

91 4runner with a non-functional chargins system and a constant battery drain. Was doing some troubleshooting with a VOM and measuring each circuit with fuse / fusible-link removed. When I tried to pull the 80A fusible-link (fuse?) it wouldn't come out. Then the plastic broke. I tried to grab what was left of the plastic and it broke, then the guts of the thing broke... Starting to worry here, can I remove the whole fuse block to work on this ??

Thanks for sharing your knowledge gentlemen, I feel pretty stupid for doing this...

I'm hoping at this point that by removing the fuse-box from the firewall there's a way to push this fuse out from the back after disconnecting the wires (for that fuse only) from the back of the fuse box... anyone know...

The 80Amp Fuse's wires are BOLTED to the leads in my 87 4Runner. IIRC anything above 30 amps will use bolts to attach the wires and won't be simple "blade" type slide in Fuses...

Yeah you can get them at checker or autozone. I blew an 80A fusible link a couple months ago and was able to get 2 of them for only a couple of bucks.

hahaha it happens to alot of people. Mine was already blown when I tried to replace it. I used some needle nose pliers and destroyed it. I paid $15 at the dealer thinking it was some hard to find fuse and then I saw them at advance auto parts for $3.

You can use a screw driver to unclip the 80 amp fuse holder and slide it out the bottom of the fuse box. There is no need to unbolt the fuse box. You can get a new fuse at the parts store for under 10.00 dollars.

Push the plastic clip over, then press down on the broken fuse. The fusible link assembly comes out the bottom of the fuse box. Then you can unbolt the fuse itself and replace that. I paid about 2 dollars for my 80 amp fuse at Kragen. They have them with all the other fuses in the fuse department.

The fusible link is nothing more than a piece of plastic that the wires from the alternator bolt to that hold the fuse in place. I don't see how you could destroy that.

FWIW, I did the same thing (destroyed my 80 amp fuse trying to pull it out). HTF are we supposed to know that the assembly comes out the bottom of the fuse box?
