I have a couple of issues with my truck after doing my timing chain

I am looking for some advice on a couple of things that I have with my truck since doing the timing chain replacement, it is a 1994 4x4 with the 22RE engine. Today while driving at highway speeds I had a check engine light come on. I checked the codes and I had a code 71, EGR fault. I checked all the hoses that I had off and everything seems in place. Just wondering what seems to be the issue with this light coming on, the EGR valve itself or maybe something else.

Also a different issue I am having is I have oil leaking down the back of my engine and it appears to be coming from the top pan gasket. I installed new Toyota gasket and rubber half moons when I had the top pan off and I have the nuts on the top pan tightened down pretty good. Just wondering what kind of torque most people put on these top pan cover nuts.

Two fingers tight on the valve cover bolts (7 ftlbs)
I had the same issue with the check engine light coming on with that same code. I took off the negative side battery cable waited a bit and put it back on. It shut off the light and no more code. Not exactly sure why that worked but it did for me.
Hope that works.

yea seriously, valve cover is easy to warp, i tighten just enough so that i cannot remove the nuts by hand. i believe that code pertains to the sensor for egr temp.. . . . . if your like me you forgot to plug it in i let the little gray connector on the harness get burried when i put the upper intake back on

I've had to tighten my valve cover bolts down pretty good... I have a couple that like to loosen up and I start losing oil...

Like said above... check all your wires, too. When I did my HG I forgot my temp sensor.. Got really excited to have it back together and just missed a couple little things

The only experience I've had with engine codes (none on my Yota thank God.. I'd probably cry) is faulty sensors. "here's what's wrong, it'll be $120, thank you have a nice day"
