Question i have a 1991 4runner with a 3.0vze in it

I have a 1991 4runner with a 3.0 vze in it that has bad compression in two cylinders and i was wondering if a 1989 22r-e will fit in it?? They're both automatics and 4x4. The 1989 is a rust bucket and the 4runner is to but not as bad. Does any one know if this motor will fit in the 4runner and will there be alot of things that id have to change? let me know.

Does anyone have a 3.4 for sale? I have this rusty 1989 rust bucket of a truck with a 22r-e in it. It runs and drives 4x4 works i could trade(with cash if needed) for one. Let me know

Go with the 3.4L from a 3rd gen. There is TONS of information on here about how to do the swap. SEARCH and don't look back!

I believe the 3.4L is lighter than the 3vze and it will put out more horses. So best of both worlds. IF you find one with low miles you can put a supercharger!

The 3.4 is going to be the "easiest" swap and probably the best... but a 22RE would fit.

You'd need new transmission, new transfer case (if 4WD), motor mounts (welded to frame) and of course all related 22RE accessories including the ECM and wiring harness.

Most likely you'll need a new crossmember as well.
