Gauge cluster swap

I have an 87 pickup, with 22re motor. It was an automatic but have replaced it with a 5 speed from a 92 4Runner. I just found a gauge cluster from an 86 4Runner (22re) with a tachometer that I want to put in but want to make sure it will work. Anyone have any experience doing this swap? Any issues i need to be aware of? Since my truck doesn’t have a tach, will I have to run a new wire from the distributor or is there already a wire in the harness? Don’t want to buy the gauge cluster and spend the time installing if the tack won’t work.

Doing the same thing to my 86. I am finding out that the wiring is already there. biggest thing is to NOT FORGET to swap out the oil pressure sending unit.So far for me it has been plug and play. Speedo head will not swap over though so you'll be stuck with the mileage on the swap unless a speedo shop can do the adjustments

Yep, plug and play. I put an 85 SR5 cluster in my 88. Like mentioned, you HAVE to get the oil pressure "sender" and swap it from the oil pressure "switch" that you have in there now.

There are a few threads and I think youtube videos on how to change the odometer to match your current mileage.

Thanks for the response guys. That is what I was hoping to hear. I picked it up last night. Looks like it is in really good condition and the mileage difference between the new one and my original is less than 2K miles. It’ll be a couple of weeks before I make the swap but don’t expect any issues. My biggest concern was the tach wire not already being there.
