forum search = major performance gains 3.0

Just wanted to throw out a big THANK YOU for the info on this forum. I used the search function and learned some good info. The biggest help was through VIN and axle info. My truck was born with 31" tire option and had 27" tires on it. I just got my 31's on today and the difference was incredible. I thought you would have better power with a smaller tire and I couldn't have been more wrong. Better acceleration and better sense of power with the rpms in the right range.

So you replaced 31" tires with 27" tires and felt a performance gain? Or did you mod the engine first?

no, had 27" tires on it. The 31's made the difference. I never would have guessed it, common sense tells you a smaller tire would spin up faster and easier, but the truck actually runs out a lot better with the taller tire.

going from 27" tall tire to a 31" tire will cause you to have less torque applied to the ground and the truck will be slower. Simple physics. Your butt-dyno decieves you.

Alternatively the local DA will have a SIGNIFICANT difference upon how the engine responds. IE - in 40*F temps with low humidity, the truck will seem to have ooddels of power compared to a day when its 95*F with 90% humidity.

Also the old tires could have been a 6ply carcass and weighed a significant ammount relative to the new 31s you have. Im sure theres more than a few 31s out there that are a normal 4 ply. Also what width?
