a/c compressor

well i tried to charge my system today and found out my compressor isn't kickin in...any thoughts?

on my dads Chev burb it wont engauge the compressor if the charge is low, its a saftey measure to protect the compresser... My guess is if a chevy has it a toyota probally does too...
