92 help

hello I am bran new to the forum and know absloutly nothing about Toyotas I am mechanically inclinded just not with these trucks I have a 92 pickup with the v6 I use it as a trapping vehicle only gets driven probably 3 months out of the year well I went to start it the other day and it just cranks doesn't even attempt to start if I spray starting fluid in it it will fire right up and continue to run which leads me to believe the fuel pump is still good has anyone had this issue or know where I can start to figure this out as trapping season is quickly approching

Usually when you can't get an engine to fire up on its own, but using starting fluid does get the engine running, that indicates that you have spark (otherwise it would not run), but you have a lack of fuel.

Lets do a quick test to help narrow down where the problem(s) lie.

Find yourself a paper clip.

Then find the "Diagnostic Connector" by the fuse box.

Use the paper clip to jump the +B and Fp terminals. This will allow the fuel pump to run with the key in the "ON" position, bypassing the Air Flow Meter (AFM) and the Circuit Opening Relay (COR) circuits*.

With the +B and Fp terminals jumpered, turn the key to the "ON" position. Do you hear the fuel pump?

Try starting the engine. Does the engine start now?

If so, you have a problem with the AFM - COR circuit. If not, we have more possibilities to explore.

*The AFM and COR circuits are safety circuits, which shuts off the fuel pump when the engine dies, which is important if you get into a crash and a fuel line breaks. It prevents the pump from spraying gasoline everywhere and reduces a chance of fire in a crash. The jumper in the diagnostic box is for testing purposes only.
